Panzer Unity, What is it?
Our interest started long ago and we thought that there is no "good" enough ww2 tank sim out there. So we thought: Lets make our own! We do have lots of different skillsets in our team. Texturer, mapper, 3d artist and so on. We even had our own coder! (position for a coder is open btw) So why not? We are doing this for free because it is in our interest and it is what we want. FUN, it is fun doing it and it is amazingly fun playing it already and we are not near beeing finished!
So what is Pzu and what do we want with it?
As of now Pzu works with the most basic things like driving, shooting and an simple AI.
What we do have:
Realistic tracks and wheels movement.
Trackphysics, tracks can be destroyed.
Parts and items can fly off when hit (partly working)
Realistic armor and penetration mechanics.
Realistic guns and shell parameters (to a certain degree like velocity, weight, explosives)
An ai system that can follow, attack, defend, ambush and go between waypoints by order or randomly.
Simple crewpositions, they are eyecandy only right now. (only camera positions)
Simple ordering of your zugs position.
Realistic sounds. (recorded from real tanks/cannons on youtube)
And what needs working on:
Slippery tracks.
Sounds.
Low fps in some places, especially when using the different sights.
Materials. (mostly adjusting brightness and reflecting)
Our vision is that we are gonna have:
Gearbox/engine scripts. (now its basic and arcade controls)
Fully working crew with hatches. (almost there with the hatches)
More cameras.
Detachble parts/items. (partly coded already)
Hitboxes and different kind of damages, right now we only have track damage and complete kills with knocked off turrets.
Lots of drivable vehicles.
Multiplayer.
Singleplayer campaign.
Tankopedia with all vehicles in the game. (right now only one vehicle but the second is coming soon)
Working interiors.
Big and long list with many ifs, but we got time

That is great, ambitious list and your vision for good tank simulation is pretty much 1:1 to mine
Looking forward to it with great interest, do you have any kind of timetable in mind to beta release or similar or is it too early to ask?

As of now there is no timeline. Its a hobby project we are doing in our freetime. Im sorry i cant give you a more specific answer =)
About the beta, It will come, hopefully within a few months.

Hi again, couple of (stupid) questions become in mind. I'm sure realistic loading times comes without question later but about sounds, are you planning to have any kind of simple crew sounds like in T vs T, clatter from the loading etc? Do you have plans to make other than desert map later? I know it's a hard work and those things are not so important, just asking to have some life here

Yes, im gonna try to make everything as realistic as possible so loading times are going to get a bit changed!
Im gonna try to add crew sounds for the different members, problem is its hard to find good voice actors. And i dont want to use assets from other games for obvius reasons.
About the terrains for sure. I will try to get as many fronts added as possible, but that is very far in the future. Right now its only a North African campaign im gonna do, for both sides =)

Sounds promising. Hopefully not much have changed since you last used it. But its mostly code anyway so no real need for you if you dont want it, to play around in unity itself Or im always around to help! But get online on skype, the usual room where we all are! Or i can invite you to our PzU dev only room! =)
