Re: Beta test requests
Jeff,
It's not as silly as you may think. Many software development groups have been through similar pay/no pay approaches. The rare ones are the group that worked together and progressed the software.
It's not always a pay cash for work. An example that BPNZ (and others) would be fimiliar with would be the EAW war between VBH and TheCodeGroup.
Modders put many hours into there work. What they expect in return is as unique as there work.
I can only relate modders to my profession, so The better the mechanic, the more primadona he is until they reach a certin skill/life comfort level. Maybe that is why corporations pay people great sums to put together the "best" team.
My only hope is that there is never here a haitered like mine Vs BobR or VBH Vs "some".

Re: Beta test requests
It sounds like both mods claim frame rate increases but they achieved them in different ways. Zee seems to have reduced the polygon count of the models on the "AI" tanks and at distances. MMP seems to have fixed shadowing issues (to put it simply, if I'm correct) - which I don't think Zee has mentioned fixing. It's too bad both can't be combined since this game does have a very small following (200 people across the world, tops?).
I'll be interested to see how MMP 6.0 (or is it 7.0?) compares to ZeeWolf's Easter update. Either way I LOVE that work is still being put into this game! Hats off to you guys.

Installing:
Extract the T34 vs Tiger mmp7 release.7z to you’re hard drive. Copy the TvsT.exe from you’re original DVD or from you’re original install to the T34 vs Tiger mmp7 release folder. Run the exe..
Multiplayer:
You will require Gameranger to play online with other MMP7 players.
http://www.gameranger.com/
It's important to point gameranger to the TvsT.exe in your mmp7 install directory.
Create a room, wait for you're friends to join, click host. Pick the map, choose you're tank press play.
It is very important that you all have exactly the same version of the game! The version is displayed bottom right of the game screen.
Known Issues:
1. Sometimes you will spawn into the enemy's camp.
2. We have had the odd invincible tank, usually a T34.
3. To hear the ambient sounds you will need to go to Single Player choose a side. You will then hear the ambient sounds. Navigate back to the MP screens and play as normal.
THIS IS A BETA
We are working on improving TvT and there are still some problems. This is a beta so it is not final. If you are a coder with C++ experience and would like to help out please get in touch.

Re: Beta test requests
Not sure where you want our testing thoughts, so I'll just start here.
1. First of all, fantastic job! I can even tell just by viewing the command view that there are no more script errors flooding the window... awesome!
2. Performance is much improved - well done! Performance with max shadows is equal to no shadows, so you must have fixed something there.
3. For some reason there is no turret traversal sound in the Tiger? Haven't checked the T-34 yet.
4. Also noticed there is no gun-reloading sound? Is this on purpose?
5. New Tiger skin looks great - if a bit "soft" (German mission 4). I think maybe the stock skin was quite sharp/harsh, but this one, especially in the wheel detail, seems a bit soft.
6. Do you have an all-encompassing list of changes that have been made somewhere?
7. I don't see the loading-progress tracks for the individual missions.
8. German Mission 1 is weird - my fellow tank didn't follow/help me, and the T34/76 tanks never appeared over the horizion. Are there larger changes here?
Going to keep playing as I have time (newborn at home) - will post more later!
Well done and thanks for all the hard work!

Re: Beta test requests
Hi Bleser.
3. The sound is there in my build, try it with the engine off The new sound is subtle and very close to the original Tiger sound.
4 Yes this is on purpose.
6 We do not, as there are so many changes. We will start a new thread where we try to remember
7 The missions now load to quickly for the loading bar.
8 This is an MULTI-PLAYER mod, while the single player missions are there and working. Our main goal was to improve the multiplayer experience

Blesser, as to point 2, max shadows tends to be a bit much anyway, I run a notch or two off, it looks more realistic that way

Re: Beta test requests
Really great stuff so far guys. But I'll I've been doing is killing bots, no one else online to play.
I did notice that the gun default "zoom" is 4,000 meters instead of 0 meters. Is this on purpose?

Re: Beta test requests
Just completed my first online play expierience with MMP 7.0 Beta on GameRanger. GREAT FUN!
No issues whatsoever. Just amazing fun, great graphics, and very high FPS.
However, I did join the host and think I never got a chance to pick my tank... it just started with whatever I did last... is this expected?
Again, great fun... I just wish there were more people to play TvT!!
Also, going to post my screen shots from tonight's game over in "the screenies" thread...

Re: Beta test requests
I was in there with Bleser. Launching from GR was simple. Everything seemed pretty stable. I think we played for about an hour or so. Minor lag but that was surely my connection. I'm personally grateful for all the work put into this, thanks.
Re: Beta test requests
We are very pleased the mod is to you're liking guys
The tank selection screen gets missed on some XP machines and when it does the game uses the last selected tank. The answer is to pick a tank, play it in sp and you will have that tank for mp.
Nice to see the screenies Bleser, feel free to post them in Tanksim

Re: Beta test requests
Last night we had another go and it did not go nearly as well.
Three of us tried to meet up and play, but due to excessive lag (or some other factor) could never get a good game going. At times the in-game chat would be extremely delayed, and other times I would land eight hits on the player next to me with no effect - and they would be, what looked like to me, continuley shooting into the same spot of the ground until I eventually blew up.
Each of us tried hosting but it was no help. One player was in Arizona, one Missouri and a third was in New Zealand. Even with just the Arizona/Missouri players, lag made the game unplayable. What's really odd is these two players had a successful hour-long session the night before (see above).
What steps can we take to help alleviate this in the future? I think there were router ports that needed to be opened for TvT but can't seem to find them. Anything else we can do?
Thanks!

Re: Beta test requests
From experience Bleser, I would put that down to lag, we see it from time to time. Indestructible tanks is a symptom of lag. If anyone has a ping over 100, forget it.
Re: Beta test requests
That makes sense - my ping was 150-250ms the entire time.
Do I need to port-forward the TCP and UDP ports listed in this thread to host a game?
https://panzersim.forumotion.com/t256-ports-for-tvt
Also, I can't seem to create a game - only join. Here are the steps I take; let me know if I'm doing something wrong.
1. Click Host in GR
2. Click Start in GR
3. Game takes me to the MP create screen.
4. I choose a tank, map, time limit and click "Create."
5. I get into the game, but no one ever joins me.
Any thoughts as to why this might be? I've waited 5+ minutes before and no one ever comes in.
Also, in the above steps, is it ok to back out to the menu, go to single-player menu to get my music playing, and then navigate back to create a multi-player game?
Thanks!

Sounds like ports to me Bleser. Gameranger requires port forwarding for UDP port 16000.
And Gameranger hosting problems here.

Re: Beta test requests
Well, it was a sad weekend. I've basically learned that I can only play online if the other players are in the USA. If I try to cross the pond, lag makes the game unplayable. Not sure if this can be helped/corrected, or it's just the physics of it all (lots of network hops I'm sure). I get about 160ms ping in UK games and it just doesn't work.
Oh well, I'm certainly not going to give up. As it stands I'm going to drop any other game I'm playing if I see someone pop on GameRanger for TvT!

I completely take this back. My video card Mipmap detail level was set to one notch below the "worst". Moving it up to "High Quality" made all the difference. FANTASTIC JOB AGAIN! I just wish more people in the States played this game!
