Hosting and connecting to MP games

Post  Monkwarrior on Sun Nov 15, 2009 8:22 pm

TvT is notorious for it's malfunctioning connecting and finding TvT games.
We are searching for solutions to fix this.
Currently there are 2 possibilities which both seem to work when the ports of the player are setup correctly.
Remember: setting up your router and firewall can have a huge impact on success.

1) Hamachi
Download hamachi here.
Create a useraccount at that site.
Login at that site and start Hamachi.
Join our channel called panzersim , password = wemodtanks

Hamachi opens direct connections between players called tunnels. If everybody joines this channel all hosted games can be seen as LAN games.
Joining such games should be easy.
Make sure you can ping the host with hamachi (right mouse button) and make sure the connection light of the host is green.
Being able to ping a player seems to be the most ideal situation, but it is not necessary to see them ingame.

2) Gameranger
Download gameranger here
Create a gameranger account.
Join Gameranger and see if there are any games hosted.

A site about TvT which also has some detailed information:
http://www.hitenter.co.uk/tvt/english.html

More info follows when our knowledge progresses.

Monk.

An update:

We successfully managed to run the new dedicated server exe over our hamachi channel last night. We had no problems, apart from one of our members, who's router seems to be the cause of his problems.

Not gonna fiddle around with MP yet, need all my attention on my part of the job on this sim, will have a try on a later stage when some sounds are ready to be tested in MP.

Is there a certain time-frame you guys play at? Also, I haven't used Hamachi in a long time, shouldn't I be able to see my name in the list when connected?

your own name will not listed in the list!
hamachi has his outfit changed somewhat - if you have not used it for some time you have to reinstall it

I saw 5 of you online today, but wasn't able to join the game. I used monkwarriors address as it said he was the host. Is there a certain port I need to open on my router.

You need to open ports in your firewall to play in Gameranger.

To host and join you need to forward ports 25857 for both UDP and TCP

Also do I need the latest MMP patch to play? Because I don't have it and don't know where to get it.

Edit: Ok nevermind, I found it, http://tanksim.org.ru/modules/wfdownloads/viewcat.php?cid=9

Currently we play without the latest MMP-patches.
If we play we do that with the vanilla game + unofficial patch.

Ok thanks guys, I wasn't able to do the last part about the DNS server. I tried both listed in my command prompt and they didn't work. But did it for the router, no problems there.

Hi everybody!

I just installed MMP5 and tested to play online using Gameranger, but I see some people active with standard game release.. Is it possible to switch between mod and original game. Or I have to make another installation?

I tried to connect to some game, and after start I got only MP screen with empty servers list.

Thanks!

There are many variants of TVSt possible. For MP it is absolutely necessary that each player have the same version.

If you want to change the mods (mmp3, 4, 5, 5(1), zeewolf's add on or something other) without a inconvenient manual backup ... a tool like the generic mod enabler is very helpful

I would say the most played version is mmp3 or mmp4
The newest version is mmp5(1) but this version isn't tested yet sufficient.
mmp6 is just worked out by Fight AKM - a french guy

We (the panzerUnity-team) almost always play with our own version, which is changed continuously
